TRADITIONAL TWIST

VALUE ADD.

The modern addition—distinct in its form and finishes—allows for more flexibility in active household areas, like the kitchen and combined dining and living spaces. In turn, the existing smaller rooms gain a new sense of purpose by creating a spatial hierarchy between the home’s private quarters to more public gathering places.

RELO PACKAGE.

The existing kitchen moved into the addition (its former location now works as quiet office space). The new space creates a modern backdrop for the kitchen’s white cabinetry with stone gray counters, integrated appliances, and a central cooking island with room for casual dining. The airy room opens to an expansive back deck where family and friends take in the outdoors.

OPEN SEASON.

The new kitchen now opens directly into the addition’s shared dining and living area, all of which are washed in natural light with ample views to the outdoors.

DRINK ORDER.

The dining area niche houses a convenient undercounter fridge and an extra base cabinet for storage. Above, white floating shelves pop against the same calming blue featured on the opposite accent wall.

AERIE RETREAT.

Upstairs, the new primary bedroom takes advantage of the addition’s ample windows. The bed—pushed against a partial wall—leaves circulation open while effectively dividing the space for a secondary office. A sloped ceiling allows for a clerestory window, which casts natural light through a transom in the dividing wall. Simple yet adaptable, the room becomes a serene parental retreat.

BUILT FOR TWO.

The primary bathroom’s rich brown vanity floats above a large-format gray tile floor. Its double sinks and ample drawer storage easily accommodate two users. Above, an expansive mirror reflects the custom shower clad wrapped in the same gray tile and polished chrome accents throughout.

POWDER PEEK.

The blue geometric tile floor pops against crisp white walls and plumbing fixtures and polished chrome accents in this diminutive powder room. A single bold design element can be all that’s needed to give a small space a big personality.

BLUE WAVES.

Aqua and white tiles ripple across the floor and into the shower for this cheery bath remodel. The floating walnut vanity introduces a warm counterpoint—and ample storage—for the homeowners’ children. Crisp white walls and chrome details complete the fun, fresh vibe.

TRADITIONAL TWIST

VALUE ADD. The owners of this Colonial Revival loved its quiet neighborhood and characteristic brick façade. But the traditional floor plan left little room for growth. The solution would come with a rear addition that respects the home’s existing architectural style while creating a more open, flexible plan to support the everchanging nature of family life.
