The owners of this Northwest DC condo wanted more elbow room in their narrow galley kitchen. A space-conscious fix came with bringing down the wall to open up the kitchen into the adjoining two-story room. Matte white cabinetry with pale gray accents make the kitchen feel even bigger, while the peninsula’s slim engineered quartz counter extends as a buffet into the adjacent dining area. Stainless details—including a boxy custom exhaust hood—complete the crisp, clean palette.

Also on the client’s wishlist: maximize the condo’s coveted views. To that end, the kitchen’s streamlined design doesn’t dare detract from the picture-perfect wooded park grounds beyond. Opening up the kitchen created uninterrupted sight lines to the adjoining double-height room’s views and flooded the space with natural light. Minimalist track heads and LED spots—placed within realigned soffits—combine to provide additional ambient and task lighting.

This welcoming nook may boast the best seat in the house. A comfortable banquette—complete with drawer storage below—stands on stainless legs above the durable, low-maintenance luxury vinyl tile (installed right on top of the existing floor). A right-sized, glass-top table mirrors natural light while rounding out the perfect spot for morning coffee and convo.
