Seventies Glam
Looking to set up a pied-à-terre in DC, the owners of this condo were drawn to the city’s most infamous address and its panoramic Potomac River views. But the Florida couple knew the two-bedroom, seventh-floor unit would need an upgrade to restore its original ’70s glamorous appeal.
No doubt it’s the marble-look sintered stone slabs that steal the spotlight in this condo kitchen. The luxurious and durable manufactured stone covers the counters and creates a dramatic backsplash treatment.
On either side of the range, marble-look backsplash panels slide open to reveal storage nooks. To the right, a counter top niche carves out another storage spot, while a fully integrated exhaust fan disappears above.
Nickel-and-glass tall cabinets with lighted matte brown interiors make for glitzy display. Just beyond, a sizeable wine fridge finds a home once occupied by an old pantry door.
Glossy white perimeter cabinets pop against the matte brown veneer of the peninsula, integrated refrigerator, and tall cabinetry. The honed marble-look slabs repeat to create a dramatic display atop the peninsula—without interrupting the sight lines into the adjoining living area and river beyond.
The peninsula features an eat-in counter that extends into the adjacent TV room. Convenient under-counter freezer drawers and microwave save valuable counter and floor space.
Who wouldn’t want to tune in—or tune out—in this funky TV room? The clever panel wall houses the big screen while hiding its components behind touch-latch panels made from the same brown wood veneer used in the kitchen.
Dark violet velvet chairs sit majestically at a glossy, round black table, while an oversized chain pendant plays off the dining suite’s gold details below. A serene—and seemingly sated—Buddha stands by to bless the room and its panoramic river views.
The formal living space looks over the condo’s open plan straight to the Potomac River. Its neutral sofa, stone-and-gold tables, and zigzag rug help define the ’70s-inspired sitting area.
The same marble-look manufactured stone used in the kitchen creates a dramatic fireplace wall in the living room. A shaggy blue lounger completes the hip aesthetic.
The sumptuous ’70s look—and stunning view—carries into the master bedroom. Candy-colored Lucite nesting tables, cozy velvet chairs, and Mongolian lamb throw pillows hit all the right retro notes. Extending the same white oak flooring from the condo’s main living area helps create a cohesive whole.
Frameless glass panels provide a clear view into an elegant shower with a chunky quartz bench for sitting and safety. A simple niche holds the requisite toiletries without spoiling the shower’s minimalist appeal. Cinching the glamorous retreat? Simulated-marble porcelain tile that clads the shower walls and flows across the bathroom floor.
Beyond the shower, a private toilet area lies behind a frosted-glass panel door. The matte white soaking tub sits atop the durable, low-maintenance marble-look porcelain floor. A floating vanity in matte metallic features two deep drawers for his and her storage below a frameless mirror.
A far-out Foo Dog basin set fills the powder room’s monolithic black marble sink. The P.E. Guerin fixtures coordinate with gold-tone capsule lighting on either side of a frameless mirror mounted on a matching marble slab, while an undersink marble shelf provides convenient storage below.
