LET’S CONNECT.

Removing the wall to an adjacent family room immediately accomplished the client’s desire for a more open, communal space. The spacious island in textured oak laminate with a slim composite gray counter houses spacious storage cabinets on one side and an induction cooktop with deep drawer bases on the other. A matching demi cabinet floats on the nearby wall to provide extra storage. Photo Credit: Anice Hoachlander

ISLAND VIEW.

The island stretches into a convenient table for anything from homework to casual meals. A custom aluminum leg—resembling the keel of a boat—provides support without sacrificing legroom. Above, a ceiling-mount exhaust hood installs nearly flush against its custom drywall housing to preserve sight lines into the family room. Photo Credit: Anice Hoachlander

APPLIANCE CENTRAL.

An L-shaped mass wall of matte gray lacquer cabinetry features stainless channels in lieu of handles for a streamlined look. The perimeter cabinetry houses integrated fridge and freezer columns plus a steam oven and speed oven with storage above and below. Turn the corner and find a full-sized convection oven and a pullout pantry. Beyond, a former hall closet becomes a three-door tall pantry with adjustable shelving, internal drawers, and a convenient coffee center. Photo Credit: Anice Hoachlander

IN THE ZONE.

Extending from the oven/pantry wall, a peninsula in the same gray finish now replaces the existing wall, offering full view into the family room. Parallel to the island, the two multifunction work surfaces combine to create spacious zones for cooking, cleaning, and prep. Photo credit: Anice Hoachlander

CUSTOM CLEAN.

The sleek peninsula features a custom workstation for specialized prep and cleaning with an integrated dishwasher, deep drawers, and trash pullout beneath. Together, the kitchen’s parallel work surfaces, minimalist cabinetry, professional-grade appliances, and ample storage boost both function and flow. Photo credit: Anice Hoachlander
