Mix, Match, Mingle

An eclectic but understated combination of materials reflects the homeowners’ European background. Some of the maple cabinets have a clear stain; others are aniline-dyed. Concrete countertops and a stainless backsplash complement the warm wood. A laminate floor echoes the smooth cabinetry surfaces, while satisfying the owners’ wish for a durable material that’s also easy on the feet.

A new window and glass doors brought an open, airy atmosphere to a formerly dark, dated kitchen. Even with a wine cooler, convection oven, gas grill, double refrigerator, and central work island, the kitchen never feels crowded. The rounded eating and conversation space welcomes friends and family but keeps them out of the cook’s way.

Replacing a small back door with double glass doors opened the kitchen to light and garden views.
