This remodel removed some wall storage, but an island more than picks up the slack. The kitchen’s tall pantry cabinets with rollout shelves, extra-deep drawers, and custom inserts give specialized and oversize cooking equipment a wide berth. Floating glass-door cabinets on the sink wall increase access.
Constructed archways echo each other, one carving out a breakfast nook and one defining the dining room space. Clear, welcoming lighting comes from a combination of overhead downlights, recessed wall-washers, and under-cabinet low-voltage canopies—no shadows or glare allowed.
A five-burner gas cooktop with overhead fan tops the list of new appliances, which includes a stainless double wall oven, warming drawer, 36-inch-wide refrigerator with freezer drawers, and under-counter 60-bottle wine fridge. The counter top? Sealed slate, which coordinates with the large-format porcelain tile on the backsplash and floor—both challenging surfaces that require skilled installation.
Opening up the cramped, dark 1980s-style design improved both light and circulation. An ample arched opening invites visitors into the family and dining rooms.
